The deadline for contributions to the 2014 CROP Hunger Walk is January 19.  We need to send in our final report.

 

AND PLEASE NOTE THAT THE 2015 EVANSVILLE AREA CROP HUNGER WALK WILL BE HELD ON OCTOBER 31.  PLEASE MARK YOUR CALENDARS NOW.

EVANSVILLE AREA CROP HUNGER WALK

The 41^st annual Evansville Area CROP (Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty) Hunger Walk will take place on Saturday, November 8.  It will begin and end at Simpson United Methodist Church at 2201 W. Illinois Street. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. The walk will begin at 10 a.m.

CROP Hunger Walks are community-wide events sponsored by Church World Service and organized by local volunteers to raise funds to end hunger at home and around the world. The Evansville Area CROP Walk is the longest continuous CROP Walk in Indiana.

According to Church World Service statistics, every day almost 16,000 children die of hunger-related causes – one every five seconds. In the United States, more than 43 million Americans don't have enough to eat. Worldwide, 1.02 billion people are hungry.

Church World Service, an international cooperative ministry of 37 denominations, receives 75 percent of the proceeds from the walk. Its work ranges from disaster response in the United States and other parts of the world to long-term sustainable grassroots development in more than 80 countries, including our own.

The Tri-State Food Bank and the Evansville Emergency Food Pantry Consortium each receive 12 ½ percent of the proceeds. The Food Bank serves food pantries, soup kitchens, and other feeding programs in 33 Tri-State counties. The Emergency Food Pantry Consortium serves more than 17,000 four-day supplies of food to needy families each year.

Al Spillman raised $1,739 last year. He dressed like a clown, but wasn't clowning around when he raised this amount.
